About Reverend Andrew Murphy

To share with you a few words about myself...

I hold a Masters of Divinity degree from Loyola University of Chicago. For twenty-three years I ministered as a Jesuit Catholic seminarian/ priest in Latin America, India and the southwest United States. It was during that time that I discovered my love for ceremony and its power to transform lives. It was also when I learned to do multi-cultural and bilingual celebrations.

Today I've left the structures of the Jesuit Order to devote myself to speaking the 'one language' common to all spiritual paths. In 1996 I settled in Sedona, which has become one of my great loves. I love it for its natural beauty and for the opportunity it has given me to serve people with my gifts and talents in so many wonderful and surprising ways. Eight years ago I created Heart of Sedona Weddings, which has become my most rewarding way of serving people.

What inspires me in my role as minister is not so much my background and experience. Rather it's the way that couples respond to me and the love they elicit from me. Each time I speak with a couple I'm moved to encourage and support them in recognizing and valuing the extraordinary gift of their love.

Behind our service lies the conviction that every sincere relationship is a profoundly spiritual event. Marriage draws two people not only into the heart of each other, deepening their capacity to give and receive love. It also draws them into the 'spiritual heart', where boundaries dissolve into the gentle awareness of themselves as One. Every authentic relationship is a 'coming home' to one's natural self, to one's best self, to one's spiritual self through the love of another.

I hope you enjoy our website!

Blessings & Warmest Wishes,

Rev Andrew Murphy M. Div

"Dear Andrew, I've been wanting to thank you for the wonderful wedding
ceremony you performed for my son, Matthew Ziegler and Hadassah Holland, my new daughter-in-law.

Because Matt and Hadassah and their families come from different traditions, and the guests added even more diversity, I was a little puzzled about what could be done to make sure that everyone felt comfortable and included.

I was overjoyed at the ceremony you helped Matt and Hadassah put together. Your words and the readings drew on many traditions, but somehow they all came together so effortlessly to create an atmosphere in which a deep and unifying spirit seemed clearly present. The result was powerful and joyful, and I'm deeply grateful. You will always be part of our memories of a very special day. Sincerely."
